Details of a high speed rail network to take passengers between London and Birmingham in 45 minutes is expected to be unveiled this week.

The plans will show the proposed route and options for extending it to the north of England and Scotland.

The Transport Secretary Lord Adonis wants the network to be faster than any currently being used in Europe.
