Vaisakhi Celebrations

26 April 2009

Birmingham City Council announces plans for celebrations in Handsworth Park, from 11am – 6pm on Sunday 26th April.

Processions will begin at 10am: one from Ramgarhia Sikh Gurdwara, Graham Street in Hockley, and the other from Guru Nanak Gurwara, High Street in Smethwick.

Thousands of people will be gathering at gurdwaras early on Sunday morning to take part in the traditional processions.

Five Sikhs in ceremonial dress representing the Panj Pyare (Beloved Ones) who founded the Sikh order, will lead each procession, with the living Guru Granth Sahib (The Holy Book of Revelation).
